Rome Day 3: Failed Attempts and Trevi

We once again got up fairly early to head over to the Vatican with the intention of taking a walk around the inside of St. Peter's.  I wanted to see Michelangelo's Pieta once more and browse the Basilica's immense interior.  We knew that the Pope was speaking at 11am, and our guide book said it's actually the best day to visit the Vatican since most of the crowd is listening to the Pope.  What the book failed to mention (and we failed to ask) was that before and during the Pope's speech, St. Peter's is closed all visitors.  OOPS! So we didn't get to visit the inside of St. Peter's while we were in Rome this trip.  It was pretty neat to see the lines and masses of people filing into St. Peter's square, and the large screens that are set up to show video of the Pope.

With our morning scheduled now open, we headed over to the Trevi fountain to take some photos and walk around.  Before heading to the hotel to pack up, we passed through Campo di Fiore to check out the market.  We actually then packed up our bags and headed to the train station to see if we could catch an earlier train to Florence!
