After finding my way through the first few levels of Dante's Hell, its seems I had come out a better man. "If I do not die today, I will die tomorrow". I awoke in the morning after a tumultuous night's sleep with a 98.1 temperature. And for the first time in a week no headache, and a little bit of energy.
My brothers and I spent the day lounging at Illia's house. Reading and juggling the soccer ball. Breakfast was biscotti and espresso, however lunch was ridiculous. Giordano grilled for almost two hours. With Italians, eating becomes a sport or event. Lunch was grilled zucchini, eggplant, and tomatoes, with four different kinds of meat all prepared in its own unique way. Afterwards we did some more reading, took a nap and played some more soccer.
We were set to surprise my mother around 7:30. We left extra early to get their before my parents, and because in Italy, driving is always an adventure. The setting of the restaurant was beautiful, the food was traditional to the region and decent as well.
My mom and dad arrived a little late (to my dad's defense it was my mother's fault), and they walked in to meet us. At first my mom did not recognize my brother's and I. It could have been the ridiculous upside down sunglasses on our heads. However when she finally did she almost dropped on the spot, and then proceeded to cry. She clamored "how did you get here? When are you leaving? Oh my god, oh my god!" Her last few weeks had been rough at work, so this was more than a welcome treat. Dinner could have been awful, but was already a success.
We parted with Illia and her family after dinner and drove to Belaggio for the first time. From what I could tell in the dark its amazing. Our hotel is gorgeous and the red Ferrari parked out front makes me drool. We ended the night with a beer in town, only in Italy can you find a bar open at 12:30 am Monday morning.
Pictures are not loading....giving up for now and just posting.
